Krista started her training at the age of 3 in Las Vegas.  She was chosen to play the soldier in the Las Vegas Civic ballet ’87 production of “The Little Match Girl”.  She also sang and tapped in a solo performance at Caesar’s Palace for a senior citizens convention.

Krista has had extensive training in tap, ballet, jazz, theater, lyrical, hip-hop, modern, ballet, contemporary, and pointe.  She would attend numerous dance conventions, classes at Broadway Dance Center and Steps along with a full dance curriculum at North Country School of Dance.  A lot of her inspiration came from classes with Mia Michaels, Joe Lanteri, Bob Rizzo, Frank Hatchet, Doug Caldwell, Kennet Oberly, and her Mother, Diane Colburn. As Diane’s daughter, she was motivated to learn as much as she could about the dancing school business.

In ’93 and ’94 Krista was the reigning “Junior Miss Springfield, MA DEA”, and then in ’96 became “Teen Miss Springfield, MA DEA”.  As a North Country School of Dance student, she also won many scholarships, high score awards, platinum’s, and special awards.  She was often asked to demonstrate for master teachers.  In ’95, Krista was chosen to tour Vermont as “the fire” with The Wolcott Children’s Ballet production of THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL, choreographed by Kennet Oberly.  In her high school years, she became a member of the North Country Union High School Dance Company.

At age 16, Krista started teaching and choreographing at North Country School of Dance.  In 2001, she became the Director of the NCSD competition team. Krista has created numerous award-winning and memorable dance routines in the past 15 years.  She won DEA’S MOST OUTSTANDING CHOREOGRAPHERS AWARD 5 times, along with 3 OVERALL HIGH SCORE OF THE DAY AWARDS. Critics have said that her choreography is “innovative”, “creative”, “shows good use of props and costuming”, and “moves students around the stage well”.   Her students have gained greatly through her coaching in their sense of style, musicality, technique, and performance.  Many have won scholarships, specialty awards, platinum’s, 1st place in category, and have gone on to professional dance careers, prestigious college dance programs, or now teach dance.

Krista has also taught for Performance Dance Center in Columbus, GA, and The Stowe Dance Academy in Stowe, Vermont.  She has been an adjudicator for the Stowe TRIP DANCE COMPANY auditions and is currently a guest choreographer for the TRIP COMPANY and UVM College Dance team.

Through the years Krista has taught and choreographed for the Lake Region Dance Club, Girl Scouts, 4H Club, after-school programs, GA recreational programs, singing artists, and weddings.  For the past 10+ years aside from teaching Krista has been working as a substitute pianist for Plymouth Congregational Church in East Charleston, and she was also an orthodontic assistant at Associates in Orthodontics.  She enjoys singing in her church choir, for weddings and other events.  Krista loves instilling the art of dance in her students and enjoys seeing every student grow in their own beautiful way.
